HTFUp! Training: A Week In Review… or is it 2…
Basically it has been more like fatten TFUP over the past two weeks but I have been doing what time will allow.
The regime for the last 2-weeks has been something like this:
Saturday: Intervals at BHP – 8 repeats of 4-min efforts (SLT @ V02max) 1:1, followed by a punishing resistance leg-core workout.
Monday-Tuesday- Thursday-Friday: Paris-Roubaix Training - 3 or 4 hours of low cadence slogging in mud, ice, and snow and all hunkered down in the drops. These have really been psychologically tough rides.
Wednesday Intervals: This was the first Wednesday at the Dump and I can barely walk. I was pressed for time, and just managed to squeeze in the Tire Climb for 30-minutes (up and down), followed by the standard leg-core workout. When I started repeats at the dump last year, I could do just one effort without rest, and after 10 reps I was exhausted and literally barely able to stand (just ask Dylan how tough this workout is). Now am pounding of 30 continuous repeats in 30-minutes!

Bottom Line:
Its is good to work hard, but better to work smart. No vitamins required!
Elite for you? If you are that much better than last year.... wtf will it take for me to keep up?
ReplyDeleteAnd I hear you on the gravel muck cross been doing that here also, love that bike though.
Should be riding the hills out here on Sunday!
if i am reading right, 6 hard rides within 7 days?
ReplyDeletewhy so hard?
i thought your were "slow" and "fat"...
seriously dave.
and i think we should make greg move up to elite when he schools us all.
Yup! Elite for Greg as punishment for beating us up side the head. Daniel has been training, Olli is well… Olli. Etc etc there will be a changing of the guard this year… which should spice things up nicely.
ReplyDeleteAs for hard training... well mucking it out is hard but not HARD. I just like riding around in the mud and pretending I can actually ride a bike. Since I have to go slow I never feel so bad about not going fast. The dump however is completely INSANE, but unfortunately the specificity is very low. I plan to just show up to the race and do my thing – last, middle or first – I will have the most fun.
Too bad the race is cancelled. I would have much preferred racing in the snow however. Shame really.
Is there a DIFFERENT Greg that I don't know about?? I can barely take the expert laps! I will school you on slow.
ReplyDeleteone week till I'm riding up Mt! Rushmore!
That's the only good to the race being postponed.
yes, too bad about the race being postponed. i hope the first race is NOT scheduled for april next year and not all within a 6 week span either. our schedule is crazy. it makes it impossible for me to race all the cup races which is VERY disappointing.
ReplyDeletemeanwhile no cup races in july and august...
you better peak early this season boys.
Just rode the BDN Hills for 2 hours... mostly bone dry! After 2.5 hours on the road, so I'm tired, but a good tired!
ReplyDeleteRace would have worked here in April ;-)
That was fun today.
Thinking I may be in Edmonton in June when Canada Cup is there... HMMMMM.....
