XC8.ca Updates:

Party Time!
We would like to have a Friendly Manitoba Potluck on the Friday (night before the race) in the camp ground. I am suggesting 8 pm at my Tent. Bring something yummy to share (e.g., pasta dish). Everyone is welcome… even if you are not from Manitoba or have recently moved out of province.

Updates:
1. Dave L is in... Cool! Greg of the nine fingers believes he will be able to race.
2. Alberta has the lead in registration... come on Manitoba!
3. The park is open this year, and showers will be open (thanks God) but you can still jump into the lake.
4. Regular park entry will apply to all vehicles; cost is ~$7/day. If you wish to camp outside of those dates, you will need to register with the park and pay for your own camping.
5. When coming into the park, tell them that you are there for the bike race/XC8 and they should direct you to the race/camping area and you should NOT be charged a camping fee.
6. My plan it to arrive at approximately noon Friday to preride... it would be great to have company.
7. Bring rubber for the mud… that is my prediction.

What is this XC8 race you keep hearing everyone talk about?
Are you feeling out of the loop?
The Blocks Cycle XC8 is an 8-hour endurance mountain bike race for solo racers, and a massive relay for teams of 2 or 4 people. In its 5th season, the XC8 is Saskatchewan’s largest and most popular mountain bike event. It has a unique flavour you will not find anywhere else, and has become the ultimate social event and grudge-match between British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

No matter if you’re a strong racer or a recreational rider, the XC8 is about challenging yourself, having a great time, and it will be an experience you’ll never forget. The experience doesn’t end when the clock stops; XC8 is an entire social event. The atmosphere is festive with competitive racers and recreational riders meshing in genuine love for the sport.

The Race Course
Ride the flowy scenic trails of Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, and have plenty of friendly people to share them with. Each season we choose a new combination of trails and keep the race course secret until the day before the race. The course is designed with safety in mind for the average to intermediate rider to complete with success. You will enjoy a well marked and groomed 9-10km loop of trails with challenging technical sections, fast downhills, smooth and flowy singletrack, and over 800ft of challenging climbs per lap. The race course offers something for everyone no matter what your skill, including breathtaking panoramic views of the Qu'Appelle valley. Some maps from previous seasons are available here
Note: the course is comparable to Birch on crack! Good times!!!
Come and experience the XC8.

  1. If I can get off work You'll have company, otherwise I'll be running through my day to get there by 5.... 4 sask time, so should get a lap in, and still have time to chill.
