USA Cycling National Ultra-Endurance Calendar kicks off

The USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Ultra-Endurance Calendar will be the first of the three mountain bike national calendars to kick off, February 14-16, with the Mas O Menos 100K. The 100-kilometer marathon event will take place in Terlingua, Texas. For more information visit desertsportstx.com. That contest will be closely followed by another calendar event, 12-Hours of Santos, in Bellview, Fla. on February 16. For additional information on that event visit http://www.goneriding.com/.

The Mas-O-Menos Race course is a 32-mile loop of jeep roads, singletrack, and creek beds maintained by Desert Sports. The 100-kilometer riders get to do it twice, while 50-kilometer riders get make one loop and the 30-kilometer riders will race a modified version. The challenging course contains loose rocks in washes, drop off ledges, sand pits and it also features the infamous ‘Tres Cuevas’ - the toughest climb in any Texas mountain bike event. The 2007 100-kilometer winners were Travis Brown (Durango, Colo./Team Trek-FRS) with a time of 4:05:54, and Christina Smith (Denton, Texas/Team Ortho-Sage Cycles) with a time of 4:52:22 – beating the women’s record by an astounding 18 minutes.

CASI, home of the world famous chili cook-off, is headquarters for the race, and provides a great venue for festival events. Before race day will be two days of fun-rides, including access a fast and furious night ride. All rides will be lead by knowledgeable local guides. On race day there will also be a Kid’s Kup event open to youngsters from three to 12 years old. The event’s grand finale is the bonfire and dance on Saturday night.

If you would like to ride, race, volunteer or just show up and enjoy the fun, contact Desert Sports for more information at 432-371-2727 or check out the website at http://www.desertsportstx.com/, or e-mail at info@dersertsportstx.com.
