Single-speeders now have their ultimate test of strength and endurance: the 2008 World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships single-speed category. The world’s best one-geared endurance riders are expected to descend upon mountain bike heaven — Canmore, Canada — on July 26 and race for over $3,000 in cash and prizes with the winner taking home a cool grand plus a custom painted Spot Brand single-speed frame.
The single-speed category, which is being sponsored by Spot Brand bicycles, is all part of the 10th anniversary of the World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships and will run in conjunction with the team competition of the 24 Hours of Adrenalin in Canmore.
“The day before last year’s World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships, Nick Howe, CEO of Spot Brand, provided a custom Spot frame to the 2007 single-speed category winner,” says Stuart Dorland, founder of the World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships and the 24 Hours of Adrenalin race series. “We talked about the 2008 race and now he’s jumping in head-first. This year’s single-speed category is going to be a world-class event with a world-class sponsor and world-class racers. We are delighted that a company with the passion of Spot Bikes and the aptitude to see the future has stepped up to sponsor the single-speed category for the 2008 10th Anniversary event in Canmore.”
Says Howe: “I can’t think of a better event to sponsor and be a part of than the single-speed division of the World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships. Last year’s race was epic as far as the quality of the organization and the competition. I just knew Spot Brand had to be a part of it. We hope to continue to grow the sport with 24 Hours of Adrenalin’s help.”
So single-speed freaks update your resumes and get them out pronto to worldchampionships@twenty4sports.com because this is one race you’re not going to want to miss. Just ask Matt Chaney, 2007 Single-speed division winner: “I can’t believe how smoothly the race was run considering the volume of participants! The timing was excellent, my pit team and I always knew exactly where I was and what the gaps between me and the other riders were. I am very excited to throw a leg over my new custom Spot Brand 29er (painted with World Championship colors courtesy of Spot Brand bikes) and start training to defend my single-speed title.”
In addition to the 2008 World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships single-speed division, this year’s 24 Hours of Adrenalin series calendar includes:
• Hurkey Park Spring (Southern California) – April 26, 2008
• Laguna Seca Raceway (Monterey, California) – May 3, 2008
• Canmore Nordic Center (Canmore, Alberta, Canada) – July 26, 2008
• World Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Championships - Canmore – July 26, 2008
• Hurkey Park Fall (Southern California) – September 19, 2008
While the team competition has already sold out for the 24 Hours of Adrenalin in Canmore (1,450 riders signed up in 2-1/2 days one year in advance), all divisions are still open for the remaining 24 Hours of Adrenalin series races.
