Hills!

I survived another 2-hour run at Birch on Saturday.

It occurred to me that the distinction between a hill and a mountain is unclear and largely subjective, but a hill is generally somewhat lower and less steep than a mountain. This definition holds ture unless you are the poor sap that happens to be draggin your ass up the hill, which then become a mountain.

There are various specific names used to describe particular types of hills, based on appearance method of formation, and my particular mood. Many such names originated in one geographical region to describe a type of hill formation peculiar to that region, though the names are often adopted by cyclists and used in a wider geographical context. Or is that the other way around ... These include:

WTF – a twisting and winding hill with a large rut running directly up the middle, usually covered in mud in the fall and fallen debris in the summer.

Give me a break – an isolated hill with a double hump (the second being harder then the first) very steep sides, and a small flat top, formed by weathering.

Whatever! – a rock formation found at the top of a very long.

Fuck!– any hill in the heat, or covered with ice and snow.
