The Extra Lap: 1st Snowshoe session of 2009

We made weekly trip to Birch on Saturday, but rather then mountain biking or cross-country running we were raring to go on the first snowshoe of 2009. The roads were great, the wind was playing nice, and (unlike conditions in the city) there was enough snow on the ground for a good romp. All things considered it should have been a killer workout and a great day. For the last 10-weeks we have been pounding off super challenging 2-hour hill repeat tempos, but Saturday was the first snowshoe of the season so we had modest goals. I was only hoping to get in a steady 3-hour run, and stay warm. 20-minutes into the south side warm up loop my left binding broke off. Fortunately, I was able limp the rest of the way around and finish the loop.

  1. Sounds like fun! (& frustration)

I remember my first ever trip to birch... it was mid summer, 32 degrees and high humidity, we were at least 6k in when my partner broke his chain... (prior to having the skills to fix this) we limped out slowly not to the tune of freezing temps but rather to a burrage of some of the worst mosquitos i've ever encountered. The trails were not mowed at all and the grass was knee-high. Fun fun.
